Brock student-athletes excel in the classroom

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Brock University student-athletes excelled in the classroom in 2011-12 with a school best 61 student-athletes being recognized as CIS Academic All-Canadians, 118 OUA All-Academic and 233 President’s Award recipients.

"Academic results like this is a tribute to the hard work of our student-athletes and to our coaches who create an environment for our student athletes to achieve both academic and athletic success," said Brock Director of Athletics Robert Hilson. "As educators, I believe we are developing future leaders through the intercollegiate athletics experience."

Over the past five years, Brock’s number of CIS Academic All-Canadians has continued to grow. Student-athletes competing for this prestigious honour have maintained an academic average of 80 percent or better over the academic year.

"Brock student-athletes and coaches know that excelling in the classroom is essential for lifelong success," explained Hilson. "The combination of athletic and academic excellence as well as being a leader in our community is one of the distinctive aspects of the Brock experience for our student-athletes."

The Badgers wrestling, cross country and women’s rugby teams all had 11 CIS Academic All-Canadians in their respective sports. Swimming and track & field both had six student-athletes honoured. The Brock women’s soccer (5), women’s volleyball (4), men’s hockey (2), women’s hockey (2), women’s basketball (2) and curling (1) rounded out the 2011-12 CIS academic honours list.
