Peter Somerwil has served as the head coach of the Brock rowing program since 2004.
He’s led the Badgers to five Ontario University Championships and two Canadian University Rowing Championships.
He first volunteered as a coach at Brock in 1996 with the novice men’s crew.
Somerwil has also served as a coach with Rowing Canada with crews at the World Championships, FISU championships, Pan American qualification regatta, the Commonwealth Championships and the Team Ontario at the Canada Summer Games.
He has also served as a coach for the St. Catharines Rowing Club, Niagara District Secondary School and Grimsby Secondary School.
As a rower, Somerwil captured a World Championship in the lightweight men’s eight 1993.
He was a member of the national team for five years while competing at four World Championships and an Pan American Games.
Somerwil joined the St. Catharines Rowing Club as part of their lightweight men’s program in the 1980s and 90s.
He started rowing in high school with the St. Catharines Rowing Club.
