ST. CATHARINES, Ont - The Brock University men's basketball team dropped a 104-93 decision against the University of Fraser Valley Cascades in their opening game of the 2014 RBC Classic.
Leading the offense for the Cascades was Kadeem Willis, who was unconscious, finishing with a game-high 40 points going a perfect 17-for-17 from the field. He also pulled down 11 rebounds for the double-double. Dominique Brooks registered 29 points and five assists, while Kevon Parchment (13 points, 8 assists, 9 rebounds) and Nate Brown (11 points, 5 rebounds) rounded out the UFV leaders.
The Badgers had four players reach double figures led by
Matt Marshall who finished with 25 points and six rebounds.
Johneil Simpson contributed with 22 points and six boards, including four 3-pointers. Rounding out the Brock leaders were
Yusuf Ali (16 points, 6 assists) and
Zachary Angelini (15 points, 8-for-8 FT).
For the game, Fraser Valley shot 58.2% (39-for-67) from the field , 42.9% (9-for-21) from beyond the arc and 73.9% (17-for-23) from the charity stripe. The Badgers went 32-for-72 (44.4%) from the floor, 7-for-23 (30.4%) from long range and 22-for-24 (91.7%) from the free throw line.
Day Two of the 2014 RBC Classic begins Saturday at 12 noon. The Badgers take on UQAM at 6pm.
