Brock men's basketball holds on to defeat Regina 76-74 at RBC Classic

CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (7-4 overall, 0-0 OUA) held on to defeat tthe Regina Cougars by the score of 76-74 in their final game of the 2014 Brock RBC Classic at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Sunday afternoon. The Badgers finish with a 2-1 tournament record. 

"Our guys got better in each of the three games this weekend," said Brock men's basketball head coach Charles Kissi. "We have had a solid pre-season with such a young squad and continue to get better each day. We will now start to prepare for the upcoming OUA regular season which begins November 7th." 

The Badgers had four players in double figures led by Matt Marshall who finished with the double-double registering 15 points and 13 boards, earning RBC Classic Tournament All-Star honours. Yusuf Ali contributed with 17 points and four assists. Johneil Simpson and Zachary Angelini chipped in with 16 and 10 points respectively in the victory.

Regina was led by Tournament All-Star Alex Igual who led all scorers with a game-high 20 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Also in double digits were Will Tallman (15 points, 9 rebounds) and Travis Sylvestre (13 points, 5 rebounds).

For the game, the Badgers shot 34.8% from the floor going 24-for-69. They were also 6-for-26 (23.1%) from beyond the arc and 22-for-26 (84.6%) from the free throw line. Regina was 27-for-65 (41.5%) from  the field, 8-for-25 (32.0%) from long range and 12-for-18 (66.7%) from the charity stripe.

The Badgers open their 2014-15 OUA regular season schedule November 7-8 when they take on two of the top teams in the CIS, Carleton and Ottawa, in the nation's capital.
