
HALIFAX, NS - The Brock University women's basketball team won their opening game at the CIS Holiday Classic defeating the Dalhousie Tigers by the score of 86-67 at the Homberg Centre Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers trailed 36-32 at the half shooting just 37.5% in the opening 20 minutes. In the second half, Brock scored 54 points while shooting a season high 63.2% from the field.
Brock tied it up 40-40 with 6:24 left in the third quarter, before putting together a 7-2 run, leading 47-42 with 4:39 left in the quarter. Brock then put together an 11-2 run late in the third quarter and led by 10, 63-53, after 30 minutes.
In the final stanza, the Badgers outscored Dalhousie 23-14 on route to the 19-point road victory.
Brock had four players in double figures led by senior
Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) who recorded 19 points and 10 rebounds for the double-double. She also knocked down a season high five three-pointers going 5-for-8 from downtown. Senior
Katie Harpur (NOTL, Ont.) contributed with 13 points. Sophomore
Kira Cornelissen (Alymer, Ont.) added 11 points and seven rebounds while senior
Jenalyn Yumol (London, Ont.) chipped in 10 points, six assists and five rebounds.
Dalhousie had three players in double digits led by Rebecca Nuttall who registered 15 points and six rebounds. Courtney Thompson and Tessa Stammberger chipped in with 14 and 11 points respectively.
The Badgers now take on the Lakehead Thunderwolves in the CIS Holiday Classic Semi-Final at 5pm Monday, December 29th.
