Brock University would like to congratulate Jack Nicholson for his induction into the St. Catharines Sports Hall of Fame. Jack was the first ever head coach of the Brock Rowing program back in 1964.
"It is great to see such a long time dedicated individual be honoured for his contribution to the sport of rowing in St. Catharines," said Brock rowing head coach
Peter Somerwil. "He is still connected to the Brock Rowing program as a sounding board, providing myself and all our Brock coaches with advice from his many years of experience."
Jack has had a long tradition of coaching excellence in St. Catharines. As an athlete he rowed for St. Catharines CVI and the St. Catharines Rowing Club. As a coach, Nicholson was with the St. Catharines RC from 1959-71 and has been with Ridley College ever since from 1972-present. From 1970-2000 he was with Rowing Canada as a Canadian National Team sculling coach.
His achievements include 19-time Canadian national team sculling coach including four Olympic teams (1980, 1984, 1988, 2000), Canadian and RowOntario Coach of the Year, Rowing Canada lifetime achievement award, numerous Canadian Henley and major regatta medals (five as a national team coach).
