Adeline Steiger (St. Catharines, ON) of the women's track and field team and Keshawn Igbinosun (Scarborough, ON) have been named the Brock University Athletes of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Jan. 5.
Steiger, a third-year runner, bested 13 other competitors to place first in the 1000-metre race at the 2025 Sharon Anderson Meet in Toronto. The Media and Communication Studies major finished in a time of three minutes, two seconds and 56 milliseconds which was over two seconds faster than the second-place finishing Brooklyn McCormick. Steiger beat her personal best by ten seconds and took home the track and field team's Athlete of the Meet honours for her impressive performance. In the 600m race, she also delivered a personal best, besting her previous mark by five seconds.
Igbinosun won his first race of the year in exciting fashion at the 2025 Sharon Anderson Meet. The fourth-year sprinter finished the 600m race with a time of 1:21.63 which placed him four tenths of a second ahead of Waterloo's Ben Lemon. Igbinosun prevailed over 29 other athletes to claim the top prize. His time now puts him seventh in the U SPORTS rankings for the 600m event, and to top it off, the Teacher Education major set an all-time Brock record.
