Baseball blanked by Varsity Blues 2-0

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (9-7 OUA) dropped a 2-0 decision against  the University of Toronto Varsity Blues Monday night at Community Park. Brock has two games remaining in a must win situation needing one victory to clinch the final playoff spot.

Toronto would open the game with four straight singles in the top off the first off Brock starter Nathan Penrose (Burlington, Ont.) which would lead to the only two runs of the game. Penrose allowed just two more hits in the final six innings but would get no run support for the second straight game.

For the Varsity Blues, Katayama went five strong innings allowing just six hits for the victory. Fortuna would pitch the final two innings giving up two hits while striking out three for the save.

U of T was led by Jonathan Isaac (2-for-3) and Chris Dahiric (2-for-4) who both recorded two hits a piece.

Brock had three players with multiple hit games including Matt Marinelli (2-for-3), Joe Kirby (2-for-4) and Casey Burnie (2-for-4). 

The Badgers stranded 11 runners in total including the bases loaded twice in the fifth and seventh innings. 

Brock will travel to London Tuesday for a doubleheader against the second place Western Mustangs to end the regular season.
