Brock baseball sets new single season record with 16th victory

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University baseball team (22-8 overall, 16-4) set a new single season high for OUA conference wins as they won their 16th of the season defeating the McMaster Marauders by the score of 9-3 at Bernie Arbour Stadium Saturday afternoon.

Leading the Badgers were Wil Nicholson (Burlington, Ont.) and freshman Jordan Grant (Mississauga, Ont.) who collected two hits each. Freshman Ben Kirby (Burlington, Ont.) went 1-for-4 with two RBI. Evan Baglieri (Chippawa, Ont.) and freshman Nathan Smith (Brampton, Ont.) both went 1-for-3 with RBI doubles. Junior Bill Sloat (Woodstock, Ont.) and senior Craig Vannus (Lambeth, Ont.) rounded out the offense adding one hit each.  

Brock used six different pitchers over nine innings. Senior starter Paul McKenna (Oakville, Ont.) threw three innings allowing just one hit in a no-decision. The victory went to freshman Phil Owen (Richmond Hill , Ont.) who threw one inning of shutout ball.

The Badgers close out the 2012 OUA regular season October 9th at 7pm when they host the Waterloo Warriors. Brock will host the OUA Championship October 12th-14th at George Taylor Field.
