CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (4-0
OUA West) improved to a perfect 4-0 in the regular season as they
defeated the Queen's Gaels by the score of 74-65 in front of 584 in
attendance Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers trailed by four (53-49) early in the fourth quarter,
before going on a 20-4 run over a six minute span to take their
largest lead of the game 69-57 with just over two minutes remaining
in regulation.
Leading the Brock offense was freshmen duo of Joel Whitty (St.
Catharines, Ont.) and Didi Mukendi (St. Catharines, Ont.) who both
recorded 18 points each. Whitty also handed out five assists while
knocking down a season high five three-pointers.
Also in double figures was senior Owen White (Port Hope, Ont.) who
contributed with 13 points.
Queen's Mitch Leger led all players with a game high 25 points
including 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Brock's defense was able to
keep the Gaels leading scorer Baris Ondul to just nine points on
the night.
Brock shot 41.7% (25-for-60) while knocking down 10 three-pointers
(10-for-27) 37.0%. The Gaels were 26-for-57 from the field for
45.6%.
The Badgers continued to outrebound the opposition, winning the
battle on the glass 38-28, which included 15 offensive boards.
The Badgers next action is November 21st and 22nd when the travel
to Ottawa to take on OUA East opponents Carleton and Ottawa.
