Men's Basketball falls to Marauders 89-69


ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (8-10 OUA) dropped an 89-69 decision to the McMaster Marauders Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

With 5:29 left in the second quarter, the game was tied 29-29. Over the final five minutes, McMaster would put together a 17-7 run leading by ten at the half 46-36.

In the third quarter the Marauders would pull away going on a 17-6 run to lead by as many as 21 points 63-42 with 2:21 left in the quarter. The Badgers would never be able to recover ending their two game winning streak.

The Marauders were led by the duo of Keenan Jeppesen and Cam Michaud who combined for 55 points. Jeppesen finished with his first triple-double of the season registering 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists.  Michaud added 21 points and seven rebounds.

Brock had three players in double figures led by freshman Clinton Springer-Williams (London, Ont.) who recorded a game high 31 points going 10-for-18 from the field and 11-for-12 from the charity stripe. Senior Mike Cruickshank (Toronto, Ont.) added 11 points while sophomore Mark Gibson (Toronto, Ont.) collected 10 points in the loss.

McMaster shot 47.8% (33-for-69) from the field while the Badgers shot 36.5% (23-for-63) including just 29.6% (8-for-27) in the second half.

The Badgers next action is February 12th and 13th at 8pm when they host the first place Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
