Tipping's 32-point performance leads Badgers past Queen's 92-79
ST. CATHARINES, Ont.- The Brock University men's basketball team ended the 2012 RBC Classic with a 92-79 victory over the Queen's Gaels Sunday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The McGill Redmen were crowned the RBC Classic Tournament Champions after going a perfect 3-0. Brock was 2-1, Queen's 1-2 and Regina 0-3.
The Badgers trailed 19-18 after one quarter and were up by nine points at the half 45-34.
With two minutes left in the third quarter, the Badgers led 68-50. Queen's would cut the lead to eight after putting together a 10-0 run trailing 68-60 after three quarters.
Midway through the fourth quarter, the Gaels would bring it to within one, 73-72, but the Badgers would never surrender the lead closing out the game on an 8-0 run going a perfect 8-for-8 from the charity stripe.
Brock had four starters in double figures led by junior Jameson Tipping (Orangeville, Ont.) who led all scorers with 32 points and 13 rebounds for the double-double. He also tied the Brock single game record from the charity going a perfect 11-for-11.
Senior Mark Gibson (Toronto, Ont.) contributed with 19 points, eight rebounds and four assists. Senior Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharinesa, Ont.) chipped in with 15 points while freshman Issack Egueh (Ottawa, Ont.) added 10 points and seven assists in the victory.
The Badgers were 32-for-67 (47.8%) from the floor, 36.8% (7-for-19) from beyond the arc and 95.5% (21-for-22).
For the game, Queen's shot 42.9% (30-for-70) from the field, 38.5% (10-for-26) from three-point range and just 50.0% (9-for-18) from the free throw line.
