Hot shooting leads Brock over Varsity Blues 88-78

TORONTO, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (2-5 OUA West) ended the first half of the season with an 88-78 victory over the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (2-6 OUA) on the road Saturday night.

The Badgers knocked down a season high 19 three-pointers and set a new single game three-point percentage record shooting 73.1% going 19-for-26. They were also just one shy of the record for most three-pointers in a game which is 20 versus Thompson Rivers (2006-07). 

Leading the Badgers offense was senior Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) who recorded a season-high 29 points knocking down 10-for-16 from the field including 8-for-10 from beyond the arc. Kasamba ties the Brock single game record for most three-pointers in a game with eight, tying former standouts Allen MacDougall and Dave Picton.

Junior Jameson Tipping (Orangeville, Ont.) added 21 points and four assists while going 4-for-6 from downtown. Freshman Issack Egueh (Ottawa, Ont.) contributed with 14 points, seven assists and a career best four three-pointers. Freshman Brandon John (Toronto, Ont.) registered a career high 11 points going 3-for-3 from downtown. Senior Mark Gibson (Toronto, Ont.) added six points and 13 rebounds while senior Mike Luby (Kenora, Ont.) added four points and season high 12 rebounds in the victory.

Arun Kumar led the Varsity Blues offense finishing with 24 points. Also in double figures were Alex Hill (20 pts, 7 reb), Ben Garvin (18 pts) and Adam Plummer (10 pts, 6 reb).

The Badgers shot 50.8% (33-for-65) from the field highlighted by a season high 73.1% (19-for-26) from beyond the arc. Brock was just 3-for-11 (27.3%) from the chariy stripe.

Toronto finished the game shooting 40.8% (29-for-71) from the field, 30.0% (6-for-20) from beyond the arc and 70.0% (14-for-20) from the free throw line.

Brock returns to action January 3rd at 8pm when they host the McMaster Marauders at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
