Brock men's basketball drops 79-73 decision to Marauders

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (2-6 OUA West) opened the second half of the season with a 79-73 loss to OUA West divisional rival McMaster Marauders Thursday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

This foul filled affair saw both teams combine for a total of 44 fouls and 37 turnovers. Throughout the contest both teams exchanged baskets regularly, but in the end, McMaster would knock down three clutch field goals and go a perfect 4-for-4 from the charity stripe in the final minute to secure the victory.

McMaster had four players in double figures led by Joe Rocca who recorded 23 points and six rebounds. Aaron Redpath contributed with 18 points and four rebounds. Rohan Boney had a big game off the Marauders bench adding 12 points, five rebounds and five assists. Rounding out their leaders was Taylor Black who collected 10 points and eight rebounds in the victory.

Leading the Badgers were seniors Didi Mukendi (St. Catharines, Ont.) and C.J. Smith (Scarborough, Ont.) who recorded 16 points each. Mukendi also added a team high six boards and was 2-for-4 from beyond the arc, while Smith went a perfect 3-for-3 from downtown in his return. Senior Mark Gibson (Toronto, Ont.) contributed with 13 points and five rebounds. Rounding out the Badgers leaders was junior Jameson Tipping (Orangeville, Ont.) who finished with nine points in the loss.

For the game, McMaster shot 36.5% (23-for-63), 40.0% (8-for-20) from three-point land and 69.4% (25-for-36) from the charity stripe. Brock finished the contest shooting 3.1% (28-for-65) from the floor, 44.4% (8-for-18) from beyond the arc and went to the free throw line just 15 times going 9-for-15 (60.0%).

The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 5th when they take on the Western Mustangs on the road.
