Brock men’s basketball fall to Golden Hawks 85-70
ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University men's basketball team (4-9 OUA West) dropped a 85-70 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks (4-9 OUA West) on Saturday afternoon in the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers controlled the first four minutes of the game taking an early 14-2 lead. Laurier came back with an 8-0 run to make it 14-10 with just over four minutes remaining. Brock came back with 11 before the end of the quarter to take a 25-16 lead.
The Golden Hawks battled back in the second quarter to bring them to within three with the Badgers leading 36-33 heading into halftime.
In the third quarter, Laurier managed to outscore Brock 22-15 and continued their offensive success into the fourth by putting up 30 while the Badgers scored just 19, dropping their third game in their last four contests.
Brock's Mike Luby (Kenora, Ont.) and Jameson Tipping (Orangeville, Ont.) led the Badgers with 18 points each, while Luby also led with 13 rebounds and Tipping followed with nine.
William Coulthard led the Golden Hawks with a game-high 24 points while knocking down four three-pointers. Maxwell Allin had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Jamar Forde scored 13 points and pulled down 10 boards for the double-double.
As a team, the Badgers shot 37.7% (26-for-69) from the field, 13.6% (3-for-22) from beyond the arc, and 78.9% (15-for-19) from the charity stripe.
Laurier shot 40.7% (33-for-81) from the field, 43.8% (7-for-16) from three-point land, and 85.7% (12-for-14) from the free throw line.
The Badgers next action takes place on Wednesday, January 23 when they host the Western Mustangs (1-11 OUA West) in the Bob Davis Gymnasium at 8pm.
