Brock Men's hockey announces 2011-12 schedule and season tickets
St. Catharines, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team has officially announced their schedule for the upcoming 2011-12 season as well as season tickets.
"We are very excited about the upcoming season," said head coach Murray Nystrom. "We are looking to improve upon a very successful year. With the return of a veteran core and the addition of such a talented recruiting class, we look to be among the top teams in our conference."
The Badgers lineup is made up of many former Canadian Major Junior players along with Junior A and some of the top local junior B players. Key returnees include goaltender Kurt Jory (Brandon, Man.), last year's team MVP, assistant captains Derek Brochu (Welland, Ont.) and Steve Miller (Thunder Bay, Ont.), all former CHL players. Former Thorold Blackhawks standout Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.), who led the team in scoring last season as a rookie, returns for his sophomore season.
The Badgers will showcase former Niagara Ice Dogs forward Dylan MacEachern (Mississauga, Ont.) and Grimsby native Mitch Gaulton, a draft pick of the New York Rangers, to build upon the base of local talent. While Dan Tanel (Mississauga, Ont.) and Eric Bonawitz (Lewiston, Maine) come to Brock after playing in the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League. Tanel skated for the Acadie-Bathurst Titan and Bonawitz played for former Badgers player, Jason Tatarnic, in Woodstock, NB, after toiling with the Lewiston Maineiacs.
A premiere matchup will be witnessed early in the season, as the 2010 CIS national champions, Saint Mary's Huskies will compete for the prestigious Steel Blade trophy. Brock will host the annual RBC Asset Management/ RBC Dominion Securities Steel Blade Tournament from September 22-25, which will include Brock's divisional rival, University of Guelph Gryphons, Saint Mary's Huskies and the Badgers.
Brock will also play non-conference road games versus the Saskatchewan Huskies and Regina Cougars from Canada West and the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers, an NCAA Division I opponent.
Brock hosts eight regular season games in the first half of the season and six in the second half. They will play Waterloo, Lakehead, UOIT and York each twice at home with single games versus Carleton, UQTR, Windsor, Laurier, Guelph and Western.
2011-12 Brock men's hockey season tickets are now available at gobadgers.ca or by calling 905-688-5550 x4506. Prices are $80 for adults (50% off the regular season ticket price) and $150 for the new family season ticket for a family of 4-6 (70% off the regular season ticket price).
