Brock men's hockey fall to Warriors 3-2 in OT

WATERLOO, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (5-6-3 OUA) lost 3-2 in overtime to the Waterloo Warriors (8-4-2 OUA) at the Columbia Ice Field Saturday night.

The Badgers opened the scoring 3:39 into the opening period as junior C.J. Dickson (Thorold, Ont.) setup freshman Johnson Andrews (NOTL, Ont.) for his fifth goal of the season.

In the second period, both goaltenders played strong as the Badgers Adrian Volpe (Burlington, Ont.) recorded 16 saves in his return to the lineup and Waterloo's Justin Leclerc turned aside all 13 Brock shots he faced.

Just 44 seconds into the third period, Waterloo's Justin Larson would beat Volpe to tie the game 1-1. Brett Mackie and Steve Whitely added the assists.

The Badgers would regain their one goal lead at 6:32 on the power play, as junior Thomas Stajan (Mississauga, Ont.) and Dickson found sophomore Daniel Tanel (Brampton, Ont.) who put it past LeClerc for the 2-1 lead.

The Warriors would tie it 2-2 midway through the third period as Larson and Joe Underwood setup Mackie for his fourth goal of the season.

2:19 into the overtime, Waterloo's Micky Sartoretto setup Andy Smith for his fifth goal of the campaign and second game-winner.

In goal, Volpe recorded 40 saves in the loss while LeClerc registered 30 saves for his third victory of the season.

The Badgers next action is November 30th at 7:15pm when they host the Waterloo Warriors at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
