Brock men's hockey falls to Windsor Lancers 3-1
St. Catharines, Ont.- The Brock University men's hockey team (7-11-3 OUA West) dropped a 3-1 decision to the Windsor Lancers (15-6 OUA West) Friday night at the Seymour- Hannah Centre.
Prior to the game the Badgers recognized the St. Catharines Hurricanes teams who raised over 2500 lbs of food as part of the Coach For Food program.
Brock opened the scoring with 1:06 left in the first period, as C.J. Dickson (Thorold, Ont.) and Jake LaPlante (Mississauga, Ont.) setup Sean Jones (Newmarket, Ont.) who buried it past Windsor goalie Parker Van Buskirk for his sixth goal of the season. The Lancers outshot the Badgers 15-10 in the first period.
Near the beginning of the second, Windsor would tie the score up 1-1 when D.J Turner scored for the Lancers, assisting from Jadran Belijo and Kenny Bradford.
The score would remain tied until the late minutes of the final frame. With 2:45 remaining in regulation, the Lancers Matt Beaudoin would take a shot on goal that somehow got past Badgers goaltender Dalton McGrath (Toronto, Ont.). The goal was assisted by Spencer Pommells and Steve Ferry.
Two minutes later, Windsor's Derek Lanoue would an an insurance marker with the empty netter, set up by Kenny Bradford to make it a 3-1 victory for the Lancers.
In goal, McGrath turned aside 49 of 51 shots he faced in the loss. Van Buskirk added 25 saves for his 11th win of the season.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, Jan. 19th at 7:00pm when they take on the York Lions on the road.
