Brock men’s hockey defeat UOIT 4-1 in key divisional matchup

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Brock University men's hockey team (8-14-3 OUA West) defeated the UOIT Ridgebacks (8-16-1 OUA West) by the score of 4-1 on Wednesday night on the road in Oshawa.

The win puts Brock two points ahead of UOIT for the final playoff spot with only three games remaining.

The Badgers would get on the board first as Daniel Tanel (Brampton, Ont.) set up Josh Schram (Paris, Ont.) for his third of the season.

With four seconds remaining in the opening frame, Brock's C.J. Dickson (Thorold, Ont.) would extend the lead to two goals on the power play with Kevin Christmas (Hamilton, Ont.) picking up the assist.

After no scoring in the second period, the Badgers put two more past the Ridgebacks goalie Jacob Rattie to take a commanding 4-0 lead.

Kaine Geldart (Kingston, Ont.) collected his ninth goal and 25th point of the season midway through the final frame with Jake LaPlante (Mississauga, Ont.) picking up his fifth assist on the year and third assist in two contests against UOIT.

Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.) scored his third goal in as many games giving him 13 on the season. Johnson Andrews (NOTL, Ont.) registered the assist on the fourth Brock goal.

The Ridgebacks would spoil Dalton McGrath's (Toronto, Ont.) shutout bid with less than two minutes remaining as Scott Baker potted the lone goal from UOIT.

In goal, McGrath stopped 30 of 31 shots to collect his seventh win this season for the Badgers. Rattie allowed four goals on 31 shots for the Ridgebacks.

The Brock University men's hockey team will host the Laurier Golden Hawks (11-11-2 OUA West) on Friday, February 1st at the Seymour-Hannah Centre with puck drop at 7:15pm.
