Notre Dame Burlington wins 1st Annual Shawn Williams Invitational
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team hosted the 1st Annual Shawn Williams HS Invitational Tournament on the Brock University campus Wednesday with eight different high schools from across Ontario competing.
In the final it was the battle of the Irish, as Notre Dame Burlington defeated Notre Dame Welland by the score of 8-4 to capture the tournament title. Notre Dame Burlington was coached by current Brock player Mike Bentivegna and assisted by Chris Dooley and Brad Wales.
Notre Dame Burlington forward and team captain Eric Wales was named championship game MVP. Leading the tournament in scoring was Notre Dame Burlington's Danny Lomas.
The tournament is named after former Brock standout Shawn Williams who in 2009 became the first Brock lacrosse player to be inducted into the Brock Athletics Hall of Fame. He led the Badgers to four consecutive championships as a player and two as a coach. The five-time Team MVP is also the all-time leading scorer in Brock history.
