Brock men's lacrosse rolls past Laurentian 11-4 in season opener

SUDBURY, Ont. - The Brock University men's lacrosse team (1-0 CUFLA) opened the 2011 regular season with an 11-4 road victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs Saturday afternoon.

Brock came out of the gates slow but gained momemtum throughout the game on route to their first victory.

Leading the way for the Badgers was senior Jordan Weedmark (Carleton Place, Ont.) who led all scorers with a game high six points adding three goals and three assists. Sophomore Bryson Filipetti (Virgil, Ont.), sophomore Mark Vradenburg (Nepean, Ont.) and freshman Mike Biergard (Whitby, Ont.) all collected two goals each. Junior Steve Nicholls (Peterborough, Ont.) and junior Dillon Hendsbee (St. Catharines, Ont.) chipped in with one goal each.

In goal, freshman Cameron Watts (Oakville, Ont.) and junior Ian Duffy (Ajax, Ont.) split duties. In his Brock debut, Watts recorded the victory allowing three goals in 50 minutes of action. Duffy gave up one goal in 30 minutes off the bench.

The Badgers next action is Sunday afternoon at 1pm when they take on Laurentian in the second game of the weekend series in Sudbury.
