Brock men's rugby drops 24-20 decision to Marauders
Hamilton, Ont. - The Brock University men's rugby team lost a
battle Saturday afternoon on the road by the score of 24-20 against
the defending OUA champion McMaster Marauders.
McMaster opened the scoring with a drop goal by Andrew Ferguson.
After battling it out for the majority of the first half, McMaster
would be the first to score a try, coming from Grant Schneider.
Ferguson would kick the convert for the extra two points to go up
10-0.
Before the half would finish, Brock would respond with a try of
their own from Reece
Hummel but Hugh
McDonell would miss the convert. The Marauders would lead going
into the second half 10-5.
McMaster once again opened the scoring with a try from Taylor
Wilenski with Ferguson kicking the convert to go up 17-5. Shortly
after, the Badgers would respond with a drive of their own to score
a try thanks to McDonell, but the convert would be missed.
Brock would shorten the gap further with another try later in the
half from Ty Riddick to
bring the Badgers within two.
After a tough drive, and continued stops from the Badgers,
McMaster's Chris Gordon would find a hole in the Badger defence and
take advantage. Gordon would run the distance for the try. Ferguson
would kick his third convert of the day for the 24-15 lead.
With ten minutes to go, Brock would score again, keeping the match
close. The try went to Matthew
Alexander but McDonell would miss the convert. The score would
end 24-20 for the Marauders as the Badgers couldn't capitalize in
the dying minutes of the match.
The Badgers are next in action against On Friday, October 7th at
4:00 pm when they host the Western Mustangs.
