Brock men's soccer blanks Ridgebacks 1-0
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University men's soccer team (3-5 OUA) scored a goal with three minutes left to shade the UOIT Ridgebacks by a 1-0 score Saturday at Brock.
The teams played to a scoreless draw in the first half with players from both sides unable to get a ball into the back of the net.
Badgers sophomore striker Erik Van Wissen (Georgetown, Ont.) had a glorious chance to put Brock on the board early in the second half but his shot just grazed the outside of the post.
The late-game winner was scored in the 87th minute by freshman forward Benjamin Haggith (Paris, Ont.) when he struck a ball into the net after it squirted to him from a goalmouth scramble. This was Haggith's first career goal as a Badger.
In net for the Badgers, senior goalkeeper Ryan Toale (Brampton, Ont.) made four saves to record his second shutout of the season. Ridgeback sophomore goaltender Michael Heirnrich (Charlottetown, P.E.I.) made six saves in the loss.
