Caughlin captures silver at OUA Championships, Women 7th and Men 10th
TORONTO, Ont. – The Brock University men's and women's swimming teams competed at the 2013 OUA Championships this weekend. The Brock women placed 7th while the men were 10th overall.
Leading the Badgers over the three-day event was Delia Caughlin who captured a silver medal in the 50m Breaststroke (32.98), which was new school record. She also placed 6th in the 100m Breaststroke (1:12.47) and 12th in the 200m Breaststroke (2:39.00).
Abigael Layton had four top 16 finishes. She placed 12th in the 100m Freestyle (59.57), 13th in the 50m Backstroke (30.76) and 16th in both the 100m Backstroke (1:06.52) and 50m Freestyle (27.50).
Rachel Sehn finished 13th in the 400m Freestyle (4:34.32) and 16th in the 400m Meter IM (5:14.23).
Other top finishes for the Badgers were Laura Perry (15th - 50m Backstroke - 31.25), Ashley Duquette (16th - 400m Freestyle - 4:41.68) and Lisa McCann (16th - 200m Meter IM - 2:28.65)
In five relay events, the Brock women placed 5th (200m Medley Relay), 6th (800m Freestyle Relay), 7th (400m Medley Relay), 8th (200m Freestyle Relay) and 9th (400m Freestyle Relay).
The 200m Medley Relay of Perry, Caughlin, McCann and Layton set a new team record with a time of 2:01.44. The old record was 2:01.68 from last year.
The Brock men placed 10th in three different relays: 200m Medley Relay, 400m Freestyle Relay and 800m Freestyle Relay. They also finished 11th in the 200m Freestyle Relay.
The lone Badgers men's individual points came from Chris Billman, who placed 16th in the 200m Butterfly (2:12.30).
