Women's Basketball rolls past Golden Hawks 88-57

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (9-6 OUA) rolled past the Laurier Golden Hawks by the score of 88-57 Wednesday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.   

Brock came out on a high leading 24-8 after 10 minutes and led 46-33 at the half. Laurier would cut the lead down to 10 points, 54-44, with 6:21 left in the third quarter, before the Badgers would go on 16-1 run leading 70-45 after three quarters on route to an impressive 31-point victory.

Brock had four players in double figures led by senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who led all scorers with a game high 23 points and six rebounds. Gorges knocked down a career high five three-pointers going 5-for-7 from beyond the arc.

Junior Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) contributed with 20 points. Senior Lauren Stewart (Hamilton, Ont.) went 6-for-9 from the field finishing with 13 points and five boards while sophomore Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) rounded out the Brock leaders adding 11 points and seven rebounds.

In double digits for Laurier were Renata Adamczyk, Megan Grant, and Christa Mancino who recorded 15, 12 and 10 points respectively. 

The Badgers shot a game high 49.3% (35-for-71) from the field including 41.7% (10-for-24) from beyond the arc. Laurier finished the contest shooting 31.9% (22-for-69) while going just 4-for-22 (22.2%) from three-point land.

The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 30th when they travel to Guelph to take on the last place Gryphons. Brock returns home February 3rd at 6pm when they play host to the Western Mustangs.
