Women's Basketball falls to Golden Hawks 63-55


ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (12-9 OUA West) dropped a 63-55 decision to the Laurier Golden Hawks on the road Wednesday night.

The Badgers got off to a slow start in the first half trailing 33-15 after 20 minutes. Brock shot just 27.0% (17-for-63) for the game, including a season low 11.8% (4-for-34) in the first half. Laurier shot 41.1% (23-for-56) from the field. They also won the battle on the boards 48-38.

Brock trailed 20-14 with 6:58 remaining in the second quarter. Laurier would then put together a 13-1 run leading by as many as 18 points at the half

With Laurier leading 58-47 with 4:39 left in regulation, the Badgers would go on an 8-0 run over the next four minutes to cut the lead to three, 58-55, with 48 second left. In the final 18 seconds, the Golden Hawks would secure the victory going 3-for-4 from the charity stripe.

The lone Badger in double figures was senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who added 11 points and five rebounds. Senior Britt Pegg (Weyburn, Sask.) and junior Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) both contributed with nine points each in the loss. 

Leading the Golden Hawks was Megan Grant who registered the double-double adding a game high 15 points and 15 rebounds. Also in double digits were Mallory Kohlmeier and Christine MacDonald who finished with 15 and 11 points respectively.

The Badgers end the regular season at home Saturday, February 20th at 1:00pm when they host the Guelph Gryphons at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
