Women's Basketball downs Dalhousie 74-72
HALIFAX - The Brock University women's basketball team (2-1 overall) improved to 2-0 at the Dalhousie Subway Classic as they defeated the host Tigers by the score of 74-72 Saturday night.
The Badgers had three players in double figures led by senior Whitney Gorges (Welland, Ont.) who recorded 19 points and six rebounds while connecting on 5-for-6 from beyond the arc. Senior Hillary Woodside (Fall River, NS) contributed with 14 points, nine rebounds and three steals earning Player of the Game honours. Junior Tara Giallonardo (Fonthill, Ont.) added 11 points and four steals with Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) rounding out the Brock leaders registering nine points, four rebounds and three steals.
The Badgers pressure defense forced Dalhousie to turn the ball over 34 times leading to 26 points off turnovers.
Brock shot 40.3% (25-for-62) from the field which included an impressive 55.6% (10-for-18) from beyond the arc. Dalhousie went to the free thrown line 29 times in the contest connecting on 86.2% (25-for-29). They shot 42.9% (21-for-49) from the floor.
The Badgers next action is Sunday morning at 9am when they take on Cape Breton in their final game of the tournament.
