Brock Women's Basketball falls to No. 1 ranked Lancers 84-56

WINDSOR, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (7-3 OUA) dropped an 84-56 decision to the No. 1 ranked Windsor Lancers (8-2 OUA) Saturday night at the St. Denis Centre.

Brock played a tough opening 10 minutes as they trailed by just one 16-15. In the second quarter, the top ranked Lancers broke the game open outscoring the Badgers 28-9, leading by 20 at the half 44-24 which the Badgers would never recover from.

The Lancers had six players in double figures led by Jessica Clemencon who led all scorers with a game high 17 points and eight rebounds. Iva Peklova contributed with 13 points and eight rebounds, including seven offensive boards. Miah-Marie Langlois recorded 12 points and a season high 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Rounding out the Lancers leaders were Emily Abbott, Bojana Kovacevic and Raelyn Prince who chipped in with 11, 11 and 10 points respectively. 

Leading the Badgers was junior Emily McKay (Toronto, Ont.) who recorded 12 points. Junior Tara Giallonardo (Fonthill, Ont.) and sophomore Hayley Neal (Mississauga, Ont.) both added nine points each in the loss.

Windsor shot 40.8% (29-for-71) from the field. They also were 86.4% (19-for-22) from the charity stripe. 

Brock shot just 33.9% (20-for-59) from the field which included a dismal 18.8% (3-for-16) from beyond the arc. They also struggled from the charity stripe going just 13-for-24 (54.2%).

The Lancers recorded a season high 56 rebounds as they outrebounded the Badgers by a 56-30 margin.

The Badgers next action is Wednesday, January 12th at 6:00pm when they play host to the first place and No.4 ranked Western Mustangs (9-1 OUA) at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
