WBB: Badgers fall to Mustangs 75-69
HAMILTON, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (12-7 OUA West) dropped a 75-69 decision to the Western Mustangs (9-9 OUA West) Saturday afternoon at Alumni Hall in London.
Brock has lost four of their last five contests. Western wins the season series 2-0 and have won four of their last five games and are 6-2 over their last eight.
The Mustangs led Brock by five at the half 36-31. In the third quarter, Western would extend their lead to 11, leading 59-48 after 30 minutes.
To open the fourth quarter, the Badgers would put together a 13-2 run tying the game 61-61 with 6:34 left in regulation. Western would answer back with a 12-3 run of their own over the next six minutes on route to the six-point victory.
Western had four players in double figures led by Katelyn Leddy who led all scorers with a game-high 23 points going 9-for-11 from the field and a perfect 5-for-5 from the charity stripe. Laura Dally and Jenny Vaughan both contributed with 16 points each. Annabel Hancock chipped in with 11 points in the victory.
For the Badgers, senior Sarah Mallen (Fonthill, Ont.) recorded a season high 18 points against her former team going 6-for-11 from beyond the arc. Junior Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) finished one rebound shy of a double-double, adding 14 points and nine rebounds. Junior Samantha deJong (St. Catharines, Ont.) collected 10 points and five rebounds in the loss.
The Mustangs shot 51.9% (27-for-52) from the field and 50.0% (8-for-16) from three-point range. Brock shot 36.0% (27-for-75) from the field and 31.4% (11-for-35) from beyond the arc. The Badgers only went to the free throw line seven times to Western's 19.
The Badgers next action is February 10th and 11th when they host the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Bob Davis Gymnasium. Tip-off both nights is scheduled for 6:00 pm.
