Brock women's basketball rolls past Varsity Blues 68-54
TORONTO, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (7-0 OUA West) rolled past the University of Toronto Varsity Blues (4-4 OUA East) by the score of 68-54 Saturday Night on the road.
The Badgers led 35-21 at the half and extended their lead to as many as 29 midway through the fourth quarter on route to their OUA leading seventh victory of the regular season. Despite being unranked, the Badgers go into the holiday break with a perfect 7-0 record.
Brock had three players in double figures led by sophomore Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) who recorded 19 points and five rebounds. Junior Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) contributed with 17 points, nine rebounds, five assists and four steals. Senior Samantha deJong (St. Catharines, Ont.) added 10 points and pulled down 11 boards for the double-double. The Badgers had all 12 players see action.
Leading the Varsity Blues were Julie Longauer and Jasmine Lewin who registered 17 and 14 points respectively. Lewis also added 10 rebounds for the double-double.
The Badgers shot 42.2% (27-for-64) from the field. They also went 27.8% (5-for-18) from beyond the arc and 60.0% (9-for-15) from the free throw line. Brock forced Toronto to turn the ball over 24 times which led to 33 points off turnovers.
The Varsity Blues shot 33.9% (20-for-59) from the field. They struggled from both three-point range 25.0% (3-for-12) and from the charity stripe 47.8% (11-for-23).
Brock will return to action on January 3rd at 6pm when they host the McMaster Marauders at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
