Late rally leads Brock women's basketball past Marauders 75-64
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's basketball team (8-0 OUA West) came from behind in the fourth quarter to defeat the McMaster Marauders by the score of 75-64 Thursday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
McMaster led for the entire first three quarters including 39-29 at the half and 52-51 after 30 minutes.
To open the fourth quarter, Brock senior forward Samantha deJong (St. Catharines, Ont.) hit a jumper to put the Badgers up for the first time, leading 53-52 with 9:50 left in regulation. McMaster's leading scorer Danielle Boiago would answer right back putting her team up 54-53 with 9:35 remaining.
The Badgers would then put together a 11-0 run over the next three minutes leading 64-54 with 6:35 left in the contest.
The Marauders would cut the lead to six, 70-64, with 2:30 remaining, but it was the Badgers extending their win streak to eight, as they closed out the game on a 5-0 run.
Brock had three players in double figures led by junior Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) who led all scorers with 19 points, eight rebounds and five assists. Sophomore Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) registered 18 points and four rebounds, including going 3-for-5 from beyond the arc. Dejong contributed with a double-double adding 14 points and 11 rebounds. She also recorded a season-high four blocks.
For the Marauders, Vanessa Bonomo led the offense with 16 points. Boiago added 14 points and seven rebounds, while Stephanie Truelove and Hailey Milligan chipped in with 13 and 10 points respectively in the loss.
For the game, Brock shot 51.0% from the field going 25-for-49. They were also 35.7% (5-14) from beyond the arc and 69.0% (20-for-29) from the charity stripe. McMaster shot a season low 25.7% (18-for-70) from the floor, 18.2% (4-for-22) from three-point range and 80.0% (24-for-30) from the free throw line.
The Badgers next action is Saturday, January 5th when they take on the Western Mustangs on the road.
