Women's Hockey downs Gryphons 3-2


ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (10-12-3 OUA) knocked off the fourth place Guelph Gryphons by the score of 3-2 at the Seymour-Hannah Centre Friday night.

Guelph's Jessica Zerafa would open the scoring midway through the first period as she netted her 11th goal of the season.

In the first 10 minutes of the second period, Brock would answer twice taking a 2-1 lead after 40 minutes. With a man down 3:39 into the second frame, the Badgers Maggie Matheson (Kingston, Ont.) would bang one home on the doorstep tying the game 1-1. Brock's Courtney Sutherland (Mount Forest, Ont.) would make it 2-1 as she buried a long shot past Gryphons netminder Danielle Skoufranis for her third of the season.

With the man-advantage, the Badgers would make it a two goal game 7:44 into the third period, as Courtney Stevens (Ottawa, Ont.) and Melissa Geary (Wasaga Beach, Ont.) setup Karolyn McIlmoyle (Newmarket, Ont.) who would register her fourth of the campaign and the eventual game winner.

With less than five minutes left in regulation, Guelph's Erin Small would cut the lead to one, as she beat Brock netminder Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont.) for her 10th of the campaign. 

Clause recorded 30 saves for the victory while Skoufranis added 13 saves in the loss.
