Ridgebacks defeat Brock Women's Hockey 3-2
OSHAWA, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (1-3 OUA) dropped a 3-2 decision to the UOIT Ridgebacks on the road Sunday afternoon.
The Badgers opened the scoring 1:02 into the second period when junior Karolyn McIlmoyle (Newmarket, Ont.) and sophomore Shannon McLeod (Port Dover, Ont.) setup junior Emily Hooper (Hamilton, Ont.) for her second goal of the season.
Just 20 seconds later, Ridgebacks freshman Jill Morillo would tie the game 1-1 as she beat Brock senior goaltender Beth Clause (Hamilton, Ont.) for her team leading third goal of the season.
UOIT would take the 2-1 lead at 7:50 of the second when junior Rikki Palmateer and sophomore Vanessa Johnstone setup rookie Meaghan Steacy who found the back of the net for her second of the year.
Steacy would add her second goal of the game and third of the campaign at 14:37 of the third period which would prove to be the game winner.
Brock would bring it within one goal at 18:20 when McLeod recorded her first goal of the season with junior Samantha Simms (St. George, Ont.) and senior Kelly Walker (Brampton, Ont.) adding assists.
In goal Clause recorded 40 saves in the loss. Ridgebacks rookie Jessica Larabie turned aside 30 Brock shots for her first career victory.
