ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (5-5 OUA) lost their second game of the weekend 4-1 to the unbeaten Wilfrid Laurier University Golden Hawks (7-0 OUA) Saturday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The Golden Hawks took a three-goal lead after the first period. Tammy Freiburger scored an unassisted goal at 9:56. Laura Brooker doubled the lead with an assist going to Katherine Shirriff at 15:29, and Alicia Martin made it 3-0 with a powerplay goal only 1:28 later. Assists went to Caitlin Muirhead and Devon Skeats.
Brock made the score 3-1 at 16:04 of the second period when three freshmen connected for a goal: Alex Nastasiuk (Barrie, Ont.) scored her first as a Badger with assists going to Jaclyn Conacher (Burlington, Ont.) and Laura Neu (Ayr, Ont.).
The Golden Hawks scored an insurance marker in the third period with a goal from Muirhed on assists from Martin and Candice Styles.
Brock freshman goaltender Chantal Bicket (Oshawa, Ont.) kicked out 30 shots in the loss. Golden Hawks goaltender Erika Thunder made 13 saves for the win.
The Badger went 0-for-8 on the powerplay. The Golden Hawks were 1-for-4.
The Badgers next action is Wednesday, November 16, when the Guelph Gryphons visit the Seymour-Hannah Centre. Game time is 7:15 p.m.
