Brock women's hockey drops 6-1 decision to No. 8 Mustangs

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (0-10-1 OUA) dropped a 6-1 decision to the No. 8 ranked Western Mustangs (8-2-1 OUA) Sunday afternoon at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.

After falling to Windsor Saturday, the Badgers went to freshman goaltender Camille Carriere (St. Andrews West, Ont.) who made her CIS debut. In her first career start, she allowed six goals on 26 shots. At the other end, Brock peppered Mustangs starter Kelly Campbell who registered a game-high 41 saves for her 7th victory of the season.

Western opened the scoring 4;51 into the first period as Kryshandra Green setup Stacey Scott for her fourth goal of the season. The Mustangs would take a 2-0 lead just over three minutes later when Katelyn Gosling beat Carriere for her second goal of the campaign.

Brock's Jessica Fickel (Fort Erie, Ont.) would cut the lead to one, adding a shorthanded marker with 5:30 left in the first period. Leigh Vanderveen (NOTL, Ont.) and Kaitie Phelan (Kitchener, Ont.) added the assists.

With 3:37 left in the first, Gosling would find Green, who gave her team a 3-1 lead after 20 minutes.

Just over one minute into the second period, Green and Gosling would setup Kendra Deller who beat Carriere with a power play marker.

In the third period, the Mustangs would add two more with goals from Scott and Casey Rosen. 

Western's Green (1G, 4A) and Gosling (1G, 3A) both had career games recording five and four points respectively.

The Badgers next action is November 17th at 3:15 pm when they host the Toronto Varsity Blues. Brock is also at home November 18th at 3:15 pm against the Ryerson Rams.
