Van Bakel, Vanderkruk and Gartley named OUA All-Stars

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women’s soccer team had three players selected to the 2009 OUA West All-Star Team. Cassandre Van Bakel (Aurora, Ont.) was named to the OUA West first-team while senior defender Brittany Vanderkruk (Flamborough, Ont.) and senior Ali Gartley (Camlachie, Ont.) were both selected to the OUA West second-team.
Van Bakel led the Badgers in scoring for the third straight season finishing the 2009 campaign with five goals which ranked 15th in the OUA. In three seasons she is already the all-time leading scorer in Brock history with 17 career goals.
Vanderkruk, the Badgers leader in the backfield and team captain, had another strong season in 2009 earning her second OUA all-star honours of her career. Her season was highlighted by her first career goal in the Badgers 4-0 victory over Guelph on Sept. 13th. She ends her Brock career as the all-time games played leader with 63.
Gartley also had another strong season in the Badgers midfield registering two goals earning her first OUA All-Star selection of her career.
