Zavaglia to represent Brock University at OUA Women of Influence Luncheon
ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Brock University women's soccer player Laura Zavaglia (Mississauga, Ont.) has been chosen as the Brock student-athlete representative for the upcoming OUA Women of Influence Luncheon.
Zavaglia has been a member of the Brock women's soccer team since the 2009-10 season. She has played in 31 career games registering one goal from the midfield. She missed the second half of the 2011 season with an ankle injury.This past season she was named one the team captains.
Over the past two years Zavaglia has played an instrumental part as a member of the Brock University Athlete Council. Last year she was a team representative and assisted in the second semester with events and promotions. This year she on the BUAC Executive as the Events Co-ordinator. She is also on the student-athlete referendum team.
This past summer she was part of an International Perspectives on Development through Sport, Health, and Physical Education class travelling to El Salvador. While in El Salador, Zavaglia and her classmates used sport and games to teach kids life skills that will veer them away from the country's extreme youth violence.
In 2012, she helped run the unity games event held at Brock in for kids in the Niagara Region. She also did Brock Mentorship Plus and was part of the Brock Badgers IMPACT Program.
She is part of the 2013 Brock University KIN Games Team who is travelling to Calgary this March.
The Physical Education major has been on the Dean's honour role each of her four years at Brock.
In four years she has an 88% academic average. She is a three-time OUA Academic All-Star and three-time CIS Academic All-Canadian.
