Anderson leads Badgers past Ottawa 3-1

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's volleyball team (6-5 OUA) opened the second half of the 2009-10 season with a 3-1 victory (25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 25-13) over the Ottawa GeeGees at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Friday night.

Leading the Badgers offense was junior Shannon Anderson (Newmarket, Ont.) who led all scorers with a match high 17 kills and 11 digs for the double-double. She also had an impressive .405 hitting percentage. For her performance, Anderson was named the Brock Player of the Game. 

Senior Erin Mercer (Rockwood, Ont.) and junior Ally Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) also recorded double-doubles. Mercer contributed with 12 kills and 13 digs while Fast added 40 assists and 10 digs. Senior Katelyn Geisbrecht (Virgil, Ont.) rounded out the Brock leaders adding eight kills, nine digs and a season high five block solos. 

For Ottawa, Player of the Game K. Kreuger-schwanke registered 12 kills and six digs in the loss. 

The Badgers next action is Sunday, January 10th at 1pm when they host OUA West rival Western Mustangs at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
