MacDonald and Fazzari take gold at Brazil Cup

RIO de JANEIRO, Brazil – Brock University women's wrestlers Jessica MacDonald (51kg) and Michelle Fazzari (59kg) captured gold medals in Rio de Janeiro this past weekend at the Brazil Cup. 

Macdonald, the 2012 World Champion, defeated Mayara Gracinao from Brazil to win the gold medal.

Fazzari posted three victories against Joyce Silva (Brazil), Braxton Papadopolous (Canada), and Sara Vasconcelos (Brazil) to secure the gold. 

Men's wrestler, Jake Hergenhein, brought home the bronze medal posting a 2-1 record with victories against Araza Hlilov (Russia) and Agnaldo Perreira (Brazil). 

Former Brock wrestler, Jasmine Mian, won the gold medal in the 48kg division defeating Fernanda Peres (Brazil) and Susana Santos (Brazil).

In the new year the Badgers will compete in the Brock, Guelph, and Western Opens. Brock will be host to the OUA Championships Feb. 16th and 17th.
