Millar inducted into Hamilton Soccer Hall of Fame

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - Former McMaster standout, Canadian National Team member and long-time Brock coach Bill Millar was a member of the first ever class inducted into the Hamilton Soccer Hall of Fame. 

This fall, Millar enters his 28th season as the head coach of the Brock men's soccer program. He is the all-time winningest coach in school history. 

Millar was born in Lennoxtown, Scotland and immigrated to Canada at the age of 13. Millar then moved to Hamilton and attended McMaster University whwere he was a standout soccer player. He is also a former player for the Canadian National Team. 

In addition to coaching the Brock team, Millar has held positions as Chairman of the Ontario Soccer Association (OSA) Coaching Development Committee, OSA Staff Coach and Instructor, Director of Coaching for Olympia Sports Camp and Director of Coaching for Grimsby Town Youth Soccer Club.

Millar has lived in Grimsby for 37 years, and was a school teacher for 33 before retiring.

In 2002, Millar led the Badgers to their first ever Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) National Championship with a 1-0 victory over the host Carleton Ravens. That same season they captured an OUA bronze medal. In 1995, the Badgers were crowned the OUAA West Division Champions and CIAU bronze medalists.

Millar's teams have won the President's Cup twice as the Brock Men's Team which includes the 1992-93 and 2002-03 seasons.

The first class of inductees into the Hamilton soccer hall of fame includes William Millar, John McGrane, Frank Donlavey and Lydia Vamos in the players' category; William Rutledge and Mario DiBartolomeo as builders; Angelo Magliocco as an official and the 1920s Westinghouse team. 

About the Hamilton Soccer Hall of Fame

The Hamilton Soccer Hall of Fame (HSHOF) was established in the fall of 2010 with the first class inducted in the spring of 2012. The Hamilton Soccer HOF is a NOT FOR PROFIT registered incorporation in the Province of Ontario. Affiliates, with representation on the Board of Directors, represent all levels of soccer in the Hamilton community. The purposes of the organization, as stated in the bylaws is to promote and support the game of soccer in the City of Hamilton; to recognize and honour those persons who have made significant contributions to the game of soccer in the City of Hamilton; to solicit, receive and expend funds for the accomplishment of the above purposes; and to pursue any other purposes which the Board may deem appropriate.
