Brock men's hockey blanks Varsity Blues 6-0

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's hockey team (3-2 OUA) shutout the University of Toronto Varsity Blues by the score of 6-0 Wednesday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.

Brock opened the scoring 6:06 into the opening period as Matt Abercrombie (Sarnia, Ont.) and Kaine Geldart (Kingston, Ont.) setup rooke Daniel Zweep (Richmond Hill, Ont.) who one timed a shot past Toronto starter Brett Willows for his first career goal.

Just over two minutes later, Johnson Andrews (NOTL, Ont.) put the Badgers up 2-0 on the powerplay, as he buried a slapshot from the blueline which Willows was screened on. Zweep and K. Geldart added the assists.

Brock would take a 3-0 lead a 12:45 as K. Geldart and Kevin Christmas (Hamilton, Ont.) setup Ryan Purvis (Orillia, Ont.) for his second goal of the season.

In the second period, it was all Brock starting goaltender Dalton McGrath (Toronto, Ont.) who turned aside all 20 Toronto shots he faced as the Badgers led 3-0 after 40 minutes.

After a scoreless second period, Abercrombie would give Brock a 4-0 lead just 2:44 in to the third period for his team leading fourth goal of the season. Brandon Kerr (St. Catharines, Ont.) and Zweep added the assists. 

The Badgers offense would continue to roll as Andrews and Anthony Geldart (Kingston, Ont.) setup Dylan MacEachern for his first goal of the campaign at the seven minute mark ending Willows night.

Brock closed out the scoring in the final minute of the third period as Purvis and A. Geldart setup Andrews for his second goal of the night to cap off a three-point performance. 

In goal, McGrath turned aside 31 shots for his first career regular season shutout. Just a few days after suiting up for the Toronto Maple Leafs as an emergency backup, Willows suffered the loss allowing five goals on 18 shots.
