ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University women's hockey team (0-8 OUA) dropped their eighth straight falling to the hands of the UOIT Ridgebacks by the score of 5-2 Thursday night at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
Brock opened the scoring just 24 seconds into the contest as
Jessica Fickel (Fort Erie, Ont.) added her second of the season.
Sarah Dolden (Brampton, Ont.) and
Brittney Cabral (Hamilton, Ont.) added the assists.
The teams would not score for the next 27 minutes until UOIT tied it 1-1 7:07 into the second period. The Ridgebacks Sarah Worthington beat Brock starter
Claire Shaw (Rosemont, Ont.) who was making her first appearance of the season.
Just over three minutes later at 10:36, Fickel would find the back of the net on UOIT starter Cassie Charette for her second goal of the night and 35th of her career making it 2-1. With her two points tonight, Fickel moves into third all-time in Brock career points with 77 surpassing Briar Komenda (75) (2003-07).
Before the end of the second period, the Ridgebacks would tie it up 2-2 as Samantha Forchielli registered her fourth goal of the campaign.
In the third period it was all UOIT as they scored three more times on 17 shots, on route to the three goal victory. Scoring for the Ridgebacks in the third were Nicole LoPresti, Joanne Moynes and Jill Morillo.
In goal, Charette turned aside 35 of 37 shots she faced for the victory while Shaw recorded 23 saves in the loss dropping her career record to 3-9.Â
In their first eight games this season, Brock has outshot the opponents 249-198Â scoring just nine goals (3.6%) while allowing 28. With the man-advantage the Badgers have struggled going just 2-for-39 (5.1%) on the power play.
The Badgers will look to get in the win column Friday night  at 7:15pm as they host the York Lions at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
