Box Score ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (0-1 OUA) opened the OUA regular season with an 84-67 loss to the No. 4 ranked Ryerson Rams in front of a crowd of 1.003 at the Bob Davis Gymnasium Friday night.
The Badgers trailed by seven after one quarter 19-12 and found themselves trailing 42-28 at the half. Brock would play Ryerson even in the third quarter and midway through the fourth quarter would bring it within 11 points, 74-63. The Rams would close out the game with a 10-4 run on route to the 17-point victory.
Ryerson had three players in double digits led by Aaron Best who recorded a game-high 19 points. Off the bench, Jordon Gauthier contributed with 16 points while Kadeem Green added the double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. Green also collected a game-high five blocks. Despite going just 3-for-15 from the field, Jahmal Jones still added nine points, eight assists, seven rebounds and three steals.
Leading the Badgers was
Jay Fast (St. Catharines, Ont.) and
Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) who both recorded 12 points each. In his OUA debut,
Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) registered a double-double finishing with 11 points and 12 rebounds.Â
The Badgers shot 35.1% (20-for-57) from the field, 38.5% (5-for-13) from beyond the arc and 68.6% (22-for-32) from the charity stripe. Ryerson was 29-for-80 (36.2%) from the floor, including 8-for-22 (36.4%) from three-point range. The Rams were also 18-for-28 (64.3%) from the free throw line. Ryerson outrebounded Brock 57-38.Â
Brock host the University of Toronto Varsity Blues at 8pm Saturday night at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
