Box Score ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's hockey team (1-8-0 OUA) defeated the York Lions (3-4-0 OUA) by the score of 3-1 on Friday evening at the Seymour-Hannah Centre.
The Badgers got the scoring started five minutes into the first period when
Laura Neu registered her first of two goals in the game to take a 1-0 lead.
Jessica Fickel and
Brianne Veale picked up assists on the power play goal.
Brock found themselves shorthanded heading into the second period but that didn't hold them back as
Katie Howlett was able to beat the York goalie just 24 seconds into the period to give the Badgers a 2-0 lead.
Neu drew the lone assist on Brock's second goal before adding another power play marker to push the Badgers ahead by three. Veale and Fickel teamed up again to assist on Neu's goal giving Brock a commanding 3-0 lead over the Lions.
Jenna Sosnoski's shutout bid would end late in the second period as Erin Cameron would pot the lone goal for York with Kristen Barbara and Rianna Langford picking up the assists.
Sosnoski shut the door in the third period to help lead Brock to their first win of the season while making 22 saves in the win. York's goalie, Megan Lee, stopped 35 of the Badgers' 38 shots in the loss.
The Badgers next action is November 8
th and 9
th when they host the Windsor Lancers and Western Mustangs. Both games are scheduled for 7:15pm.
