WATERLOO, Ont. – The Brock University women's volleyball team (3-3 OUA West) defeated the Waterloo Warriors (3-6 OUA) by the score of 3-1 (25-21, 21-25, 25-23, 25-0) on Saturday afternoon on the road.
The Badgers came away with a tight first set picking up the last few points for a 25-21 first set win.
The second set was an error filled game as Brock committed 12 errors to go with 12 kills compared to a Waterloo team that came out with just three errors and 11 kills to take the set 25-21 tying the match at one set apiece.
In the third set, the Badgers got rid of the errors by only committing four and put away 13 kills to take a 2-1 lead with a 25-23 third set win.
Brock continued their strong play into the fourth set collecting 16 kills to go with just three errors and an impressive .317 hitting percentage. The Badgers won the set 25-20 to take the match 3-1.
The Badgers had two players finish with double figures in kills led by
Lucy McLay's 17 to go with 10 digs for the double double.
Maddie Brown had an impressive performance on offense registering 12 kills and a .348 hitting percentage to go along side two aces for 14 points. Sophomore libero Karlinna O'leary had a game high 26 digs to give her 114 on the season. Junior setter
Lauren Stirling was able to connect with her teammates for a game high 42 assists.
Natasha Spaling led the way for Waterloo registering 11 kills, one service ace and four block assists for 14 points. Shannon Lodoen led both teams with four service aces to go with eight kills for 13.5 points.
For the match, the Badgers hit .108 as a team registering 53 kills with 34 errors on 176 attempts. Waterloo hit .131 with 25 errors on 160 attempts.
Brock's next action will come on the road Sunday afternoon when they play a key divisional matchup against McMaster Marauders (3-4 OUA) in Hamilton at 1pm.
