Brock women's basketball falls to Queen's in OT 69-65

KINGSTON, Ont. - The No. 10 ranked Brock University women's basketball team (5-3 OUA West) lost a heartbreaker Saturday night on the road as they dropped a 69-65 decision to the Queens Gaels in overtime.

This game was an even matchup throughout with Queen's jumping out to two different six-point leads in the second and third quarters with Brock answering and tying it up both times. 

The Gaels led 43-41 after three quarters and put together a 6-0 run to open the fourth quarter leading 49-41. The Badgers would answer right back going on a 7-0 run, trailing 49-48 wth 5:33 left in regulation. 

In the dying seconds of regulation, Nicole Rosenkranz (Niagara Falls, Ont.) would knock down two free throws tying the game 57-57 and sending it to overtime. 

In overtime, Queen's would capitalize with two offensive rebounds which led to a 5-0 run leading 62-57 with 2:43 remaining. The Gaels would knock down four of five from the charity stripe in the final minute to secure the victory.

Queen's was led by Gemma Bullard who recorded a game high 25 points going 9-for-14 from the field. Also in double figures were Emily Hazlett and Liz Boag who chipped in with 11 and 10 points respectively.

Brock had four players in double figures for the second straight night. Rosenkranz registered the double-double adding 19 points and 16 boards, including her 700th rebound of her Brock career. Kayla Santilli (Brantford, Ont.) contributed with 17 points, highlighted by a career best 5-for-5 from downtown. Andrea Polischuk (Brantford, Ont.) and Samantha De Jong (St. Catharines, Ont.) both added 11 points each in the loss.

For the game, Brock shot 38.7% (24-for-62) from the field and 42.9% (6-for-14) from beyond the arc. They once again struggled from the free throw line going just 11-for-24 (45.8%). Queen's went 25-for-73 (34.2%) from the floor, 8-for-21 (38.1%) from three-point range and 11-for-13 (84.6%) from the charity stripe.

The Badgers return to action on November 27th when they travel to London to take on the Western Mustangs. Tip-off is scheduled for 6pm.
