Brock men's basketball downs Waterloo 80-75

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. - The Brock University men's basketball team (2-8 OUA West) defeated the Waterloo Warriors by the score of 80-75 Saturday afternoon at the Bob Davis Gymnasium.

Brock jumped out to a 14-2 lead in the opening four minutes and led 23-11 after one quarter. In the second quarter, Waterloo would go on a 15-4 in the final five minutes leading 38-35 at the half.

The Warriors would extend their lead to nine, 51-42, midway through the third quarter and held onto a 60-54 lead after 30 minutes. 

With six minutes left in regulation, the Badgers trailed 66-62, before going on an 11-0 run over the next four and a half minutes to take a 73-66 lead with 1:37 remaining. Brock knocked down five of seven free throws in the final minute to secure the victory.

Brock had all five starters in double figures led by freshman Dani Elgadi (Waterloo, Ont.) who recorded 17 points and 11 rebounds for the double-double. Tshing Kasamba (St. Catharines, Ont.) contributed with 16 points and seven rebounds while Rashad Morley (Nassau) added 14 points and seven boards. Rounding out the Badgers leaders were CJ Smith (Scarborough, Ont.) who registered 13 points and six boards including three treys and Brandon John (Toronto, Ont.) who chipped in with 12 points.

Mike Helsby led the Warriors with a game-high 18 points. Jaspreet Gill and Wayne Bridge chipped in with 17 points each in the loss.

The Badgers next action will be after Christmas when they take part in Ryerson Invitational Tournament December 28-30th. Brock will play UQAM, Laval and Sheridan College at the Mattamy Athletic Centre.
