ST CATHARINES, Ont. – The Brock University women's basketball team improved to 6-4 on the season with a 59-35 victory against the Waterloo Warriors (2-7 OUA West) on Saturday afternoon in the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
The Badgers got off to a strong start going on an 18-0 run in the first quarter to lead the Warriors 20-6 after one frame.
Brock would add 10 in the second and held Waterloo to another six-point quarter giving the Badgers a commanding 30-12 lead at halftime.
The second half was a similar story with the Badgers chipping in 17 in the third quarter and 12 in the fourth, while the Warriors picked up their offense putting up 23 in the half to give Brock a 59-35 win.
Samantha De Jong led the Badgers with 14 points followed by a strong effort from
Nicole Rosenkranz who had 13 points and 11 rebounds for the double double.
Kate Kuntze led the way for the Warriors with seven points. Mackenzie Lougheed contributed five points and seven rebounds in the loss.
As a team, Brock shot 33.3% (23-69) from the field, 16.7% (2-12) from beyond the arc and 91.7% (11-12) from the free throw line. In the loss, the Warriors shot 24.6% (15-61) from the field, 5.9% (1-17) from three-point territory, and 40.0% (4-10) from the charity stripe.
The Badgers will return to home action following the exam and winter break with a key divisional matchup against the McMaster Marauders (7-3 OUA West) on January 8
th in the Bob Davis Gymnasium.
