Brock men’s basketball fall to Algoma 64-55

SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. – The Brock University men's basketball team (0-3 OUA) fell to the Algoma Thunderbirds (2-1 OUA) by the score of 64-55 on Friday night.

The Badgers struggled to find their offensive touch in the first half but held tough on defense to keep the score close at 28-24 through two quarters of play.

Brock trailed by as many as 10 points in the second half before battling back to tie the game at 47 with 8:20 remaining in the fourth quarter.

Algoma was able to regain the lead forcing the Badgers to slow the game down by fouling. The Thunderbirds came through down the stretch making six of their last eight free throw attempts to take the 64-55 win.

Tshing Kasamba and Ryan Flanagan led the Brock offense with 13 and 10 points respectively. Jeremy Angelini chipped in nine points with a perfect shooting percentage coming off the bench to play 21 minutes. Flanagan led the Badgers on defense grabbing nine rebounds to finish one shy of a double double.

Algoma spread the offense around having four players finish in double digits led by Reynaldo Carnackie and Samy Mohamed each picking up 12, while Brett Zufeit and Terrell Campbell registered 11 and 10 points respectively. Zufeit led the way defensively with nine rebounds and four steals.

As a team, the Badgers shot 38.3% (18-47) from the field, 41.7% (5-12) from beyond the arc, and 66.7% (14-21) from the charity stripe. Algoma shot 31.7% (20-63) from the field, 7.4% (4-23) from downtown, and 69.0% (20-29) from the free throw line.

The Badgers next action will take them to Sudbury on Saturday night to face the Laurentian Voyageurs at 8pm.
