SAULT STE MARIE, Ont. – The 7th ranked Brock University women's basketball team improved to 3-0 on the season with a 86-27 win over the Algoma Thunderbirds (0-3 OUA) on Friday night in the George Leach Centre.
The Badgers took control from the opening tipoff holding a 42-11 lead through the first two quarters of play.
In the third, Brock continued to put the pressure on defensively by forcing the Thunderbirds to take tough shots while increasing their lead to 64-16 heading into the final frame.
The Badgers finished off a strong overall performance by adding 22 points and allowing just 11 in the fourth quarter to make the final 86-27.
Nicole Rosenkranz led the way for Brock going nine for 11 from the field finishing with a game high 22 points along with six rebounds and five assists.
Andrea Polischuk and
Kayla Santilli registered 15 and 10 points respectively. Samantha DeJonge led both teams with eight rebounds.
Sydney Resch and Jenni Thompson each had six points to lead the Thunderbirds.
As a team, the Badgers shot 54.0% (34-63) from the field, 37.5% (6-16) from beyond the arc, and 60.0% (12-20) from the charity stripe. Brock was overpowering on defense holding Algoma to 25.5% (12-47) shooting from the field including 25.0% (1-4) from downtown. The Thunderbirds shot 11.1% (2-18) from the free throw line.
The Badgers next action will come Saturday night when Brock travels to Sudbury for a matchup with Laurentian.
